Westons (established 1880)

Westons Cider and Perry has been made at "The Bounds" in the Herefordshire village of Much Marcle for well over a hundred years, a site where Herefordshire men have produced these sturdy beverages for their own use for centuries. Weston's was founded in 1880 by Henry Weston, and is still owned by the family.

Pride of place goes to the massive 200-year-old vats in which the cider ferments and matures - these date back far before the start of the firm of course, and were bought secondhand! The 50 acres of orchards produce only a small proportion of the fruit required: the rest comes from a ten-mile radius, supplied by about 200 growers. Only cider apples are used, about 160 varieties in all.

Weston's are justly proud of their perry: many people claim Weston's perry is the finest in the country, though sadly it is not widely available due to the relatively small amount made.

Westons

Made from local specially-grown perry pears which, like cider apples, have tannic astringency. Perries are very pale in colour and have a delicate fruitiness, very much redolent of their origin. They make a wonderful summer drink and go perfectly with light meals and picnics. Perry can also take the place of light German and Italian wines at the dinner table. Still.

Known as SMD, a cider with a light fruity flavour and body, ideal for all social events. This cider has been specially blended from juices of local and more distant orchards. Less astringent than our traditional ciders, it reflects changing tastes among consumers (package PET).
Scrumpy Supreme	6.00%	2 lit	£3.59
A strong, dry cider of character for everyday drinking. Made from top quality apples, with a light but quite distinctive aroma and flavour. Not too dry, with a pleasant fruitiness which will enhance social occasions and informal meal-times. Add some to your next stew by dissolving a stock cube in it, or splash a dash in the gravy! A subtle blend of fine cider with a hint of citrus fruits plus the added warmth of ginger. It can be ideal for general drinking with friends and food. Both a winter warmer and a summer cooler. Slightly sparkling.

A characterful cider of higher alcohol content and a middling level of sweetening which makes it ideal for general drinking with friends and food.

This cider is produced from locally-grown organic cider apples. It is easy to drink with a ipe aroma and a refreshing baked apple taste.
Oak-conditioned Strong Extra Dry	6.00%	.5 lit	£1.59
This oak-matured cider made from local fruit has only 0.5% sugar added to it, so is very dry. It makes an excellent aperitif and accompaniment to fish dishes and can also be used as an inex-pensive alternative to white wine in cooking sauces
Henry Weston’s Vintage Reserve 1997	8.20%	.5 lit	£1.59
This vintage cider is selected to have a lighter character than the Classic Vintage cider, and is made from top quality cider apples of a single year’s crop and then matured in oak and selected by Weston’s Master Cider Maker

In addition to the above packaged products, we also stock draught cider to take away in any quantity, costing between £1.00 and £1.60 per pint. Thatcher's and Rich's are regulars, and many "guest" ciders, averaging 16 to choose from.
